Veiled to contest for the Betfred Cesarewitch at Newmarket after winning the Ascot in June
Veiled’s connections have bestowed all their faith on him to contest in the Betfred Cesarewitch (Heritage Handicap) at Newmarket, a Class 2 race for thoroughbreds aged three and above, with a winner’s prize of £99,600 on a field set for thirty-four participants.
The last time Veiled raced this season was on 14th June and since then, he has had enough rest to start playing on the field now.
There were six races that he participated in during this season and ended with winning four of them, the last two wins being quite important as they might as well contribute towards his qualification for a hat-trick in case he wins the Betfred Cesarewitch.
"Veiled has had a bit of a break since Ascot as she'd been on the go all winter. I think the ground is all right for her - although you wouldn't mind a drop of rain. She does stay very well and over two and a quarter miles at Newmarket you have got to stay.
That is her strength”, Henderson told.
Veiled won the Newmarket race on 28th May with fourteen in all contesting.
Nicky Henderson’s Veiled was onboard Kieren Fallon who held up towards the rear, headway five furlong out, ridden to chase leaders entering the final two furlongs, then driven to lead over one furlong out and stayed strong with the pace until the race ended.
Titled as the second in line to win the race was Ian Williams’s Gifted Leader with Paul Mulrennan riding the horse.
The third position holder was Amanda Perrett trained Trovare with Pat Dobbs riding him through the track.
Veiled’s last race and win this season was at the Ascot on 14th June, ridden by Eddie Ahern.
He held up and stayed in touch while travelling well throughout, chasing leaders and going for the clear field while entering the final three furlongs.
He was ridden over two furlong out and then driven to lead over one furlong out. He kept on with the grip and thus remained in command for the final 150 yards.
The second to win was Pat Phelan’s Ermyn Lodge, teamed up with Ian Mongan.
Ermyn Lodge was followed by Phoenix Flight, trained by James Evans and ridden by Olivier Peslier.
Veiled is now all set to participate in the Betfred Cesarewitch at Newmarket where he will counter some all time real talent and would have to earn the hat-trick that day.
