Velez Sarsfield 2-0 San Lorenzo - http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Argentina-c2841 Primera Clausura recap
Velez Sarsfield registered a comfortable 2-0 victory over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/San-Lorenzo-c40436 as Ricardo Gareca’s side overtook River Plate at the top of the table. The two Argentine Primera Clausura teams locked horns on Wednesday, April 20, at Estadio Jose Amalfitani. This was
Sarsfield’s sixth win in their 10th game.
El Fortin went in with the famous 4-4-2 formation. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alberto-c4309 Barovero guarded the net. San Lorenzo, on the other hand, also went in with the same standard formation. Pablo Cesar Velazquez
and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pablo-Migliore-c28991 started in goal for the Crows.
Sarsfield got the game off to a quick start and looked threatening in the early few minutes of the half but could not make the most of their superior ball possession. San Lorenzo soon found their rhythm and the game lost its pace, as both the teams started
passing the ball in the middle.
Even though no team was regarded favourites for this game, the ‘Small Fort’ had a slight edge considering they were playing on their home turf. It was difficult to decide which team was in ascendency as both had a few chances but did not really utilize them
to their advantage. The game was flowing at a decent speed but it stayed all even at half time as no team looked ready to break the dead lock.
Sarsfield boss, Gareca, looked tense throughout as he kept on encouraging his side to move forward and earn themselves some clear cut chances. El Fortin pressed even harder in the second half in order to get that all important lead but were continuously
denied by the Cyclone back four. It was all looking bleak for Sarsfield as Lorenzo were keeping the visitors at bay. The Saints’ resistance finally came to an end when Olivera found the back of the net in the 74th minute to earn a vital lead for
his side.
With the clock ticking fast, Lorenzo stepped up a gear after conceding the goal and started pressing forward in search of an equaliser. The Crows manager, Ramon Diaz, was looking furious at his side’s defence as they made a hash of all the hard work. Lorenzo
committed bodies forward in order to get back on level terms but the approach backfired. Second half substitute, Augusto Matias Fernandez, netted in his team’s second goal of the evening, which clearly diminished any hopes that Lorenzo had of making a come-back.
This win enabled El Fortin to go at the top of the table with 21 points while San Lorenzo are ninth with 15 points. Velez Sarsfield will take on Quilmes on Saturday, April 23, while San Lorezo will host http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tigre-c40732 on Sunday, April 24, in their next game.
