Velez Sarsfield face points deduction for over use of pyrotechnics
Argentine Apertura giants, Velez Sarsfield, are facing points deduction from the league after the police raided the club this Tuesday following massive usage of pyrotechnics during a league encounter with Banfield. This might lead to points deduction which
will see their Clasura lead slashed.
Furthermore, it has been reported that Velez Sarsfield might be forced to play their next home game behind closed doors after the city government denounced the club for excessive usage of flares and other pyrotechnics in the game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Banfield-c38595 on Monday.
It has been further reported that hundreds of incendiary devices were smuggled into Estadio Jose Amalfitani ahead of the Clasura game. The Fortin won the game 2-0 through goals from David Ramirez and Fabian Cubero.
It has been suggested that Buenos Aires Ministry of security had organised the raid on the club’s home ground and officials found large quantities of flares and fireworks which could have been harmful for the spectators. While talking to the media, prosecutor
Martin Lopez Zavaleta said:
"The flares could not have been taken inside banners or inside drums because there was a huge quantity. Boxes of fireworks were found [inside the ground] and the stadium is closed, so Velez will not be able to play there Thursday."
The government had already been under pressure to take actions against the usage of pyrotechnics following the death of a young fan who was struck by a flair during a ‘La Renga’ concert on Saturday. The Ministry has now asked Argentine FA to close down the
stadium ahead of Sarsfield’s Copa Libertadores quarter-final against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Libertad-c39795 on Thursday. The ministry has further asked to cut down Sarsfield’s three points won against Banfield as punishment.
Many of the club's players and officials have been angered by this news and have pointed out that the usage of pyrotechnics is common in Argentine football. Centre-back  Sebastian Dominguez has described the chance of points being deducted as ‘absurd’ as
it would cut-short the club’s lead at the top of the table to just one point, which would give second placed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Godoy-Cruz-c39433 a great chance of staying in contention for the Clasura title.
