Velimir Stjepanovic wins Men’s Guest 200m freestyle gold: Day two – British Gas Swimming Nationals
Velimir Stjepanovic of Serbia won the crown of Men’s 200m freestyle on day two of the 2012 British Gas Swimming Nationals at the London Aquatics Centre on Sunday, March 4.
Stjepanovic displayed his scintillating form on second day of the tournament, where he overwhelmed his competitors in the four-lap freestyle event.
The 18-year-old Stjepanovic stifled his challengers by occupying gold medal of the discipline with the timing of 1 minute and 49.32 seconds. With his stupendous effort, he spoiled the party of his closest competitor, China’s Peng Wu, who stayed 0.44 seconds
slower and posted 1 minute and 49.76 seconds for silver medal. Germany’s Markus Deibler snatched third position of the event as he ended his swim in 1 minute and 49.91 seconds for bronze medal.
Next was the Women’s Guest 100m breaststroke, where Ruta Meilutyte of Plymouth Lea snared gold medal of the event with an effort of 1 minute and 07.30 seconds. She remained just 0.02 seconds ahead of Sweden’s Jennie Johansson, who posted 1 minute and 07.32
seconds for second position. Similarly, Hyejin Kim of Korea proved his eligibility for bronze medal of the event as he ended his sprint in a time of 1 minute and 08.88 seconds.
In the meantime, the audience witnessed ruthless efforts of Denmark’s Lotte Friis, who accomplished gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle as she reported a time of 4 minutes and 09.27 seconds. She was followed by Ireland’s Grainne Murphy, who stayed almost
four seconds slower and settled on the finishing wall for second best spot with the timing of 4 minutes and 13.91 seconds.
The 18-year-old Murphy was traced by her team-member, Cecilie Johanessen, who was 0.94 seconds slower from her on the finishing end and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 4 minutes and 14.85 seconds.
Furthermore, the arena acknowledged notable efforts of all participants while the winners received accolades for their undisputed effort after the session. In addition, the session ended after the completion of all listed events in Men and Women’s category
whereas the championship will complete on March 10 after the all scheduled events.
