A man was running due east at 5ms when a southwesterly wind blowing at 2ms changes both his speed and direction in which he was running. Calculate his new velocity? (magnitude and direction)

  1. draw a vector diagram.

    draw vector for man (Vm) and then draw the wind vector Vw keeping in mind that you know it is 45degrees between south and west.

    join these vectors up with a resultant, and you should be able to solve it because you have two sides and an angle, use trigonometry to find Vr the resultant velocity
