Question:

Vending machine help

I recently bought an older Dixie single price pop machine (around 1980). It does not accept quarters, they just drop right through. It's working other than that. What could be the problem, is it just out of adjustment or is something broken? I've never owned one before, so I'm having to learn about this one on the fly.. Thanks for your help

  1. Do not oil the coin Mech.    This will distroy it!!!!!!!!!!!!

9 time of 10 the problem is dirt.  The coin mech is dirty.  Clean it with a damp cloth only.  not liquid water.   Also check in detail for any kind of coin jammed deep down inside the mech.  There may also be a coin that got inside the meck and is against the circuit board causing a short.  If you take the meck out of the machine,  remove all of the coin them turn it upside down, you may hear a coin rattling inside the meck.  tear it appart until you find it, remove and reasemble. ( easier than you think).

Also if your mech makes change, ( hold quarters nickles and dimes) you must have about two inches of coin in each tube for them to work properly.  Most vending machines will not accept an amount of money that it can't make change for.

hope this helps.  If it doesn't email me and I will give you address of place you can send it for repairs.

  2. I'm not much of an expert on those, but I used to chat with a guy that owned a bunch of them (hopefully someone like that will answer too.)  Anyway, the coin counting mechanism is very complicated and sensitive and constantly going out of order.  You either need to know how to adjust them, learn how, or hire a guy to fix it.  Try oiling all of the gears and so on, maybe that will do the trick.  Or look to see if there is a foreign coin or a slug deposited in the works.
