Venetia Williams has high hopes from Pentiffic
Pentiffic’s stamina will be put to a test when he enters the North Yorkshire Grand National Handicap Chase (for the Denys Smith Challenge Trophy) at Catterick in England on Thursday, January 10, 2013.
The race was under serious threat, as there was a lot of rain at Catterick overnight. This made the ground soft, but the organisers have given a green signal to the entire meeting after an inspection in the morning.
This will make things even harder for the runners, as they will have to cover an overall distance of 3 miles and 6 furlongs on a wet field. They will be required to put an extra effort in order to finish the race strongly.
However, Venetia Williams is not worried about the overall situation and hopes that her trainee, Pentiffic, will live up to her expectations.
She stated, “He won well around Musselburgh last week and the handicapper has raised his mark significantly, so this is an opportunity to run with just the 7lb penalty. Hopefully he'll stay. He's in great form and will really appreciate the test of stamina.
He was running a massive race in the Becher Chase and it was just unfortunate he got in close at the Canal Turn.”
She went onto reveal, “He had a wind op in the summer which has definitely helped and the tongue-tie might help him even more. He has a very live chance.”
Pentiffic is carrying the winning momentum right now and it will not be an easy task to prevent him from finishing on top of the table. He was rated as the favourite to succeed last time around and did not disappoint his fans at all.
The 10-year-old gelding has once again been awarded the highest odds for victory, but the competition is slightly tougher this time around. He will have to be at his absolute best in order to claim the North Yorkshire Grand National Handicap Chase.
Overall, he has appeared in 13 of such events and has been unable to maintain a decent winning percentage. However, he likes running on a rain affected ground, so things will definitely work out well for him under jockey, Aidan Coleman.
