Venezuela and Chile reach the finals of the ITTF Latin American Cup: Table Tennis News
The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Latin American Cup is in progress at the Mexican city of Guadalajara. The championship is the second ITTF event held in the region. Earlier an ITTF event was held at Rio de Janeiro. The Cuba Women’s Team events
were played on the evening of May 24, 2011.
The four teams that emerged successful in the quarter-finals of the Women's Team event were Cuba, Brazil, Venezuela and Chile. Cuba moved a step further and won the semi-final of the championship and reached the final hurdle. The second semi-final was competed
amongst Chile and Venezuela, and Venezuela Women's team reached the finals of the championship.
Ligia Silva from Brazil was the player, who played a key role in the victory of her team. She won two matches for her team. She joined forced with Jessica Yamada, who won the third match for the team. The Brazilian team marked a victory of 3-1 against Guatemala. 
Yadira Silva from Mexico was the player who despite of defeating two players from Cuba, Leisy Jimenez and Glendys Gonzalez, she was not able to save her team from the defeat in the round. Cuba women's team reached the semi-finals.
Venezuela team also reached the semi-finals by taking down Dominican Republic by a close score match score 3-2. The game extended to full five matches.
The first semi-final was played amongst, Brazil and Cuba. It was Lisy Castillo, who played a key role in straight victory of Cuba squad. The team marked a 3-0 victory against Brazil in the semi-finals.
It was Lisy Castillo’s first appearance in the ITTF circuit and she was contended by her performance and said, “It’s the first time I’ve played in a Latin American Championships. Also, it’s the first time I’ve ever played against Ligia Silva and I was not
prepared for her style of play in the opening game”
The most outstanding performance was shown by the Women's Team from Chile, the team featured Berta Rodriguez, Paulina Vega and Judith Morales. The players marked a 3-0 victory against El Salvador. El Salvador had the trio of Sandra Orellana, Wang de Ying
and Karla Perez.
The second semi-final was played amongst Venezuela and Chile. Fabiola Ramos was the player from Venezuela who played an important role in the victory of her team. She defeated Berta Rodriguez and Judith Morales from Chile and made her team win the round
by three-one.
The final will be contested on May 25, 2011. The best women team will be heading home with the title of the Women's team category.
