  2. Venezuela is a country. It is a very beautiful country. It has beautiful beachs, waterlands, and Caracass is nice. Margarita Island in the caribbean is a tourist island with lots of nice resorts. It has beautiful beaches and mountains such as El Copey. Venezuela has the largest free standing waterfall, Angel Falls. Beautiful! They have desert area too.

    The bad points on Venezuela is the President is stupid. He gives away all the countries resources to terrorists and murderers. He is reversing democracy in the country, stealing privately owned enterprises, and he is not helping his own countrymen. He is supporting rogue nations, terrorists, and any other country who will back communist ideals to get his country's oil money.

    Anyways, country good....people good....president jerk.

Venezuela is located in South America.  Some people call it the Enchantment of the World.  Venezuela is home to the world’s largest waterfall and there number one natural resource is oil.  There schools are very similar to ours in the United States.  They also wear clothes that looks just like ours.  You will be surprised at how other countries can be just like us.

    History

    The early inhabitants of Venezuela were the Carib and Arawak indians.  The Carib indians got there name from the Caribbean Sea.  Both the indians lived in small groups and learned how to gather food, hunt, farm, and fish.  Later, the Arawak indians were forced to move out of Venezuela by other indians.

    In 1522, the Spanish settled in Venezuela.  In what is now the city of Cumana, Spain established their first permanent settlement.  Over the years, the people of Venezuela didn’t like having to follow their rules so they decided to fight back.  That was the beginning of the War of Independence.  

    The War of Independence began in 1811.  Venezuela was fighting against Spain for the Independence of Venezuela.  During the war, many people were killed but at the end, Venezuela had won.

    After the Independence war, there was a civil war between the republicans and royalist who still wanted union with Spain.  The provinces of Coro, Valencia rebelled.  Bolivar and the other patriots continued the resistance.  Bolivar invaded Venezuela and defeated the royalist troops in many battles.  The royalists who were under command of Jose Thomas Boves marched up to Caracas and forced the republicans to flee east of the country.  In 1821, the patriots won.  The fight for independence was over.

    Bolivar is considered a great leader to the people of Venezuela.  He is their hero.  President Hugo Chavez is the 61st president of Venezuela.  He was elected in 1998 and reelected in 2000 and 2006.

    Today in Venezuela, the government is talking about how to use its resource to help poorer parts country.  Especially towards health education and other very important things.  Also, President Chavez is replacing all the light bulbs to more energy efficient ones.

    Politics

    Venezuela has a population of 23.9 million people.  The national capital is Caracas.  There are 23 states in Venezuela.  The largest is Bolivar measuring 238,000 km.  Marcaibo has a population of 2,600,000 people.    

    The types of Governments that they have are a president, vice president, and Supreme Tribunal of Justice.  There federal government is divided into five powers: The executive, the legislated, the judicial. the electoral, and the citizen powers.

    The Executive Power has a president, vice president, and a Council of Ministers.  The president is elected to a five-year term and can be reelected.  

    The Legislative Power power is the only one group of people, The National Assembly.  The National Assembly votes on the laws that the executive power creates.  

    The Supreme Tribunal of Justice is the main body of the Judicial Power.  

    The Electoral Power is separate from all the other powers of the government.  Its members are responsible for making sure election laws are followed.

    The Citizen Power has a group of people, the Republican Moral Council, who make sure that the public money is used properly.

    Hugo Chavez is the president of Venezuela.  He controls the entire country.  He controls all of the government including the five powers.  Hugo Chavez also picks on the laws to make.

    One court in Venezuela is the Tribunal Supremo de Justicia.  Some armed forces are the Metropolitan Police Force and the Armed forces of Cooperation.

    Education for children is quite similar to the U.S.  The law requires all children in Venezuela to attend school between the ages of six (6) and 14.  The government wants everyone to have attended school for at leas nine (9) years.  There literacy rate is 93 percent.  They also have the choice of going to college.  The best university in        Venezuela is Universidad Central in Caracas.  Most Venezuelan universities are private, and only the top students are able to attend.

    Physical Features

    Venezuela’s area size is 912,050 sq. miles.  Its size can be compared to about two California's.  The highest peak is Pico Bolivar at 16,428 feet.  Pico Bolivar is the highest mountain in Venezuela.  You can reach the top of the mountain on the Merida

    Cable Car, which is the highest cable car in the world.  The lowest point is the            Caribbean Sea.  Brazil, Colombia, Guyana, the Caribbean Sea, and the North Atlantic Ocean border Venezuela.  The capital is Caracas.  Caracas is in the Northern part of South America.  On March 26, 1812, an earthquake destroyed Caracas.  It took years to rebuild.  Venezuela is in the Western Hemisphere.   The Andes Mountains pass through Venezuela.

    Venezuela's climate is quite different than ours.  They refer to winter as May through November.  The rest is summer.  In the tropical zone of Venezuela, the climate is 26 degrees celsius.  It is 9 degrees celsius in the Pasture Land and Snow-field.  But most of the country is 77 degrees Fahrenheit.  The average rainfall is 430 mm in the plains and lowlands.  Also in the Orinoco Delta it is about 1,000 millimeters of rainfall.

    Natural Resources

    The major resource in Venezuela is oil.  Venezuela has one of the world’s largest supplies of hydrocarbons.  Venezuela has rivers and lakes.  They also have water from the Caribbean Sea.  Venezuela does not have rich soil.  They can grow food but it is not the best.  Gold, diamonds, iron, coal, pre, and bauxite.  Some beautiful plants in Venezuela are orchids, araguaney, helonica, Flora of the Tepuis, and the Bird of Paradise flower.  Some animals are jabiru, maguar, stork, bush dog, giant anteater, orinoco crocs, turpial, and capybaras.  Pink dolphins are the largest river dolphin in Venezuela.

    Economics

    Venezuela’s money is called Bolivar money.  It has a picture of Simon Bolivar is on the $100.  On other Bolivar money, there are pictures of birds, Angel Falls, Andres Bello, and some important buildings in Caracas.  There money is way different than the U.S. because it has different people on it and there coins are different.  The coins have little value so most people don’t carry them around.  They trade with the U.S., Columbia, Brazil, Canada, Japan, Germany, Italy, and France.  They have coffee, corn, rice, sorghum, bananas, and sugarcane.  The mineral products are iron and steel.  They manufacture textiles, leather, paper, washing machines, television sets, and radios. The population is 23.9 million people.  The nations tax authority reported that in 2001, about 50 banks and 1,000 businesses in the country avoided paying taxes and the country lost about $800 million for the government.  They had a lot of money in the mid 1970s into the 1980s when oil prices were high.  The money went to school’s, hospitals, roads,

    and other public work projects.  Venezuela had the highest income per person in South America.  Times were good.  In 1993 oil prices crashed and Venezuela’s economy took a bad turn.  

    The Arts

    Venezuela’s national dance is Joropo.  Joropo is festive, energetic, and passionate dance.  It is usually done with a man and a woman.  Some traditional things they do is when someone comes over to their house, they may only offer a snack and a drink but it is offered graciously.  Gaita is traditional Christmas music.  It must rhyme.  It has maracas and a cuatro for music.  A cuatro is a small guitar typically with four or five strings.  Manuel Cabre, Hector Poleo, and Martin Tovar are all famous painters.  Tovar’s best-known work is found on the ceiling of the Capitolio Nacional.  His mural is of Simon Bolivar’s victory at the battle of Carabobo.  

    The People

    Most of the people in Venezuela are Roman Catholic.  Spanish is there official language.  Some of there most popular food dishes are Arepas and Pabellon Creole.  Traditional dresses for women are full skirted and colorful.  They are worn only for traditional dances.  Never as a costume.  Traditional dress for men is called a liqui-liqui.   It is pants with a strait collard jacket.  

    If you were going to visit Venezuela, you should visit the capital, Caracas.  Caracas is a beautiful place right by the Caribbean coast.  Venezuela is home to the worlds largest waterfall; Angel Falls.  Angel Falls is big and a pretty sight.  It is 3,212 feet.   It is 16 times higher than Niagara Falls.  When water leaves the top of Angel Falls, it drops for 14 seconds before reaching the bottom.  Also visit the worlds longest cable car.  It goes all the way to the top of Pico Bolivar.  Pico Bolivar is the highest mountain in Venezuela.  Lake Maracaibo in Maracaibo is a giant lake.  It is a clear blue lake and you would just have to dee it.  Roraima Tepuis is the highest tepui in the Gran Sabana.  It is located near the border of Brazil and Guyana.

    The people also like to use nicknames for each other.  Venezuelans like to spend an afternoon shopping.  They also have pets.  Dogs are seen a lot in Venezuela but they are usually for security or they are wild and roaming around.  Cats are seen almost always wild.  Animals in houses are considered unclean and a waste of money.  The most famous common pet is a parrot.  They keep the parrots in cages on balconies in

    the poor areas of cities.  They have the same kind of pets as us, just they have different views of them.
