We will be in Vence arriving by air in theevening of the last Sunday in June . We are due to go to Frenzie/Florence by train for a four night stay then on to Sorrento again by train.

All info help on accomodation and reducing the cost of train travel with somesort of family ticket or travel pass.

Our accomodation in Sorrento is happily booked as is our flight home from Naples.

In Venice the ideal would be a a large room with a Double and a single rather than the usual fold up or down second bed.

As time is a premium close enough to all the sights and the transport links yet not noisy or unsafe in the evening. Naturally all this at a price that does not reflect the stories of how expensive Venice is.

The best times to see what in terms of crowds and the light will be welcomed.

  1. I recommend you B&B "Alle Rondini" which is really nice and not expensive.

  2. http://www.fondazionelevi.org/foresteria... - this place is very close to the Accademia Gallery and to the water bus stops (on the other side of the Accademia - with 2 c's) bridge. Unfortunately the site isn't in English. If you ask for info in English they'll respond in English.

http://www.ciliota.it/chisiamo_ing.htm - this place is also close to the Accademia and just a 10 minute walk to Saint Mark's square. It's run by the local church. The rooms are comfy.... and there is a nice court year. Only pblm here is that there is a curfew.

  3. Venice is quite small and even with a 9yr old you should get around it in 2 days......

I stayed in a place called Hotel Messiner ( it was a few mintues walk from the boat stop and I thought was reasonably priced for Venice...I stayed there by myself so I can't help you with the fold out bed thing...my room was compact I have to say BUt had a great view over the canal next to it)...which was on the opposite side of the canal from the San marco square ( the bus boats are great and get you around the city and good views too from them)...so it was not much to get the boat and go across.....( there are consession cards to go on the boats.....they don;t check your tickets as you get on ( BUT they have officers that will do random checks at various places so you take the chance.))
