Venus De Milo takes stunning victory in Naas Oaks Trial – Horseracing news
Venus De Milo surprised one and all with her solid victory in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Naas Oaks Trial (Listed Race).
The three-year-old filly entered the competition with a starting price of 8 to 1 and was ridden by jockey Seamie Heffernan. The pair was very much in control of the proceedings from the start until the end, which allowed them to finish ahead comfortably,
winning a cash prize of £26,422.
After the race, the victorious rider said about his filly, “She's strong and she's versatile in terms of ground as it was soft when she won on her debut at Fairyhouse and it's certainly quick tonight. I wanted to teach her and she picked up very well. She
has a bit of class.”
This was just the second race of Venus De Milo’s career and she has proved that she can take on the best in the business. She likes the ground to be fast, as her speed is quite impressive.
One of the reasons why the winning challenger did not have any trouble in the race was that Moth was unable to make an impression at all. She was rated as the odds-on favourite to succeed and the punters had shown immense confidence in her abilities. Despite
that, she could only manage eighth in the end, which was not what her camp would have expected.
After winning her first race of the 2013 season, Moth has failed to please her team in any event. She has continued to get the attention of the bookies, but things have not worked out well for her. Therefore, she needs some training before taking on some
better runners in important races like the Naas Oaks Trial.
Both Venus De Milo and Moth are trained by Aidan O’Brien, who would have had mixed emotions after the race at Naas. Although he would have been pleased with the victory, he would have liked to have achieved it with the favourite filly.
The veteran trainer will now have to think about the future of Moth, as she has disappointed him on quite a few occasions. He might run her in smaller events, where she can gain confidence and then come back to take on her rivals in higher class.
