  1. Venus Fly Traps have anthocyanins on the sides of their traps that create a reddish or purplish color.  This color probably draws in most of the insects.  However, the sides of the trap also secrete mucilage (a type of edible protein).  So once the insect lands on the trap, it crawls around on the trap lapping up the mucilage.  Then it trip the trigger hairs and the trap snaps shut.

  2. they open up and stink and have a sticky inside that the flys stick to, and once trapped the plant closes and the bug juice feeds the plant.

  3. Venus fly Traps attract prey by colour, they do not smell. The insects, or sometimes small amphibians, are captured when they walk on the open 'trap' and touch small trigger hairs which cause the 'trap' to close. When the trap closes over the prey the inside surface oozes a digestive juice which dissolves the soft parts of the prey and this is then absorbed by the plant.
