Venus Williams defeats sister, Serena in an exhibition match in Colombia – Tennis News
Williams sisters returned to courts and played an exhibition match in Colombia yesterday, Wednesday 23rd November. Both players had been out of action since their participation in the US Open Grand Slam tournament.
Younger sister Serena Williams is currently ranked at 12th spot in the world rankings and leads the head-to-head tally 13-10 against her elder sister. Venus Williams had promised an enthralling battle at the court for
the spectators in Colombia at the announcement of the exhibition match and it exactly went through the same manner as it was promised.
World No.103, Venus Williams, had been struggling from an immune system disease since her last match in US Open whilst her younger sister was suffering from some undisclosed medical issues. For that reason they have been forced
to stay away from tennis circuit since September.
They were playing in the arena that was 1,500 metres (5,000 feet) in the thin air of the Andes. Both sisters have been working really hard during practice sessions to stay fit; aging factor might have depleted their strength and
stamina but their willingness to perform has never lowered and they are always up for a challenge, giving their 100% in all encounters.
Former World No.1, Venus Williams, made a remarkable comeback to the courts in Colombia as she defeated her younger sister in straight sets 6-4, 7-6. It was one of the most exciting battles between the two players that thrilled
the audience present at the arena. It never seemed to be an exhibition match rather it looked like a Grand Slam finale as both players were meeting blow to blow, making it hard for their opponent to clinch any single point with ease.
The comeback seemed to be a perfect one for both sisters as they seemed to be physically fit and technically sound in all aspects of the game. Venus Williams showed no symptoms of Sjogren's syndrome whatsoever as she looked completely
fit and playing the game at her best.
Serena Williams on the other hand was also prolific in her approach to the game as she depicted no signs of any medical problems that were hurting her game play during US Open. She fought and stood strong for 93 minutes before
she bowed down to the masterful display of her elder sister.
The next encounter for the Williams sisters will be a doubles exhibition match that will be contested in Milan between them and Italian duo of Francesca Schiavone and Flavia Pennetta on 3rd December.
