Venus Williams injured for rest of the season

Venus Williams from the United States of America is done for the year as a result of her left knee injury that has kept her away for most of the second half this season.
The seven time major winner, Williams while commenting on her injury said that she is extremely disappointed over the fact that she will not be able to further take part in the WTA Tour tournaments at the end of this month, as
well as the Fed Cup final between Italy and the United States of America next month at San Diego as a result of her injury.
“I have been getting treatment and therapy on my knee and have been making progress, however unfortunately must continue to keep weight off my knee for the short term and won’t be ready to return to competition in 2010."
She further added," I am looking forward to returning to full health in time for the start of 2011 season and hopefully having the opportunity to play in both the Fed Cup and WTA Championships next year,” added the world number
three Venus on Wednesday.
The American currently stands at 38-7 with a total of two trophies in singles and 18-1 with three doubles crown in 2010. She also won more than $2.5 million in prize money throughout the season.
However, Williams has not contested anywhere since her three set loss at the hands of ultimate winner, Kim Clijsters in the semi final round of the United States Open in New York last month. That would now turn out to be the thirty
year old Venus’ only championship appearance in the last six months of the season.
After being upset at the grass court Grand Slam tournament earlier in June by a player ranked number 82 in the world, Venus was sidelined until taking part in the opening round of the United States Open in August. That is because,
the American injured her left knee, shortly before she was scheduled to appear at Cincinnati during the month of August. The injury kept her away out of another year’s final major, warm up at Montreal that month, as well.
It was thus, an up-and-down year for Venus, who has been using crutches to keep weight off her leg.
Williams is one of two contenders who made it to the round of sixteen at all four major events this season however she went past the quarters only at the Flushing Meadows in New York.
Both of her singles trophies came earlier in February at Dubai and Acapulco. Her doubles crowns on the other hand came at French Open, Australian Open and Madrid.
Two months ago, Venus, and Serena who has been out of the action since having a foot surgery shortly after capturing the Wimbledon crown, told the Tennis Association that they are planning to contest against Italy in the final
of the Fed Cup at San Diego.
The United States Tennis Association, however still expects the world number one Serena Williams to be on the side for the clashes against Italy.
The remaining American team includes the 2009 United States Open quarter finalist Melanie Oudin, Liezel Huber as well as Bethanie Mattek-Sands.
The American side has not captured a Fed Cup crown since 2000 and lost to Italy in the final back in 2009.
