Venus Williams scuttles past Sara Errani to reach the quarters – Western and Southern Open 2012
World number 64, Venus Williams, gusted away the 10th ranked Italian, Sara Errani, in the third round of the Western and Southern Open at Cincinnati on the eve of Thursday. She won the match in straight sets 6-3, 6-0
and registered the most convincing triumph of the third round clashes.
The opening set was started by the American superstar who won the first game at an expense of just one point. Errani was pushed to work hard for a serve hold but she did and the scores moved on to 1-1.
Williams showed her class and smashed a couple of aces to register a serve hold in the third game. Moreover, she thumped her rival in the following return game; won the first breakthrough of the match and led the scores 3-1.
Errani wasn’t able to test her rival at all. She could bag just one point in the fifth game of the match that helped her opponent to pile up a lead of 4-1.
Both players capitalized on their serves in the remaining section of the set and that was good enough for the American star to clinch the first set away from seventh seed Italian.
The American wildcard entrant commenced the second set in emphatic fashion. She started off with a breakthrough and bagged two more in succession while holding her serves on the other hand to register a bagel.
Williams commented afterwards, "I played her at the Olympics, too. I was familiar with her game because I just played her a few weeks ago. I think that helped me a lot. I've beaten two seeds here now, players who are having exceptional
years and are confident. For me to be in this tournament and getting wins over both of those players feels really good. I want to continue this in my next match tomorrow. I'd like to work my way back. Of course that's a dream for me. I dream of those things.
That's why I'm here, because I feel like I still have it.”
The third seed Aussie, Samantha Stosur, is the scheduled forth coming opponent for Williams.
