Question:

Venus flytrap is sick?

Hey all. Really hope someone can help with this.

So my mom went away for a few days and brought back a flytrap. I read up about it a bit on google but I wondered if any of you had one and had any 'real-life' advice.

It's only little (pot's about 10cm diameter), but it has lots of mouths. Some aren't yet mature, and some are fully open, with red insides and little hairs. I've been keeping it hot and humid, plenty of light, in a deep saucer of rainwater, and because it's in the potting shed, it's been catching flies. The care instructions aren't very extensive but I followed what there was.

The last week or so it seems paler, a bit more yellowy. And when it catches a fly, even little ones the right size for it, it closes up and hangs on to it a day or so, then opens up again. There's no attempt to 'digest' it or anything, and the traps are dry inside, not wet. Is it just young and immature? Should I remove these flies (carefully, with tweezers)?

And, any other advice, anyone?
