Vera Zvonareva drops out of the list of Top-10 players – Tennis News
Russian tennis ace, Vera Zvonareva, has dropped out of the Top-10 after missing out the bulk of the season due to injuries and illness. One of the main problems she is having is a left hip injury that doesn’t seem to recover anytime
soon. She started the year as world number seven but witnessed a major slump in her form right from the start.
Her compatriot, Svetlana Kuznetsova, was the first player that registered a start to the pathetic season for the former playboy magazine model. She lost in the opening round of the Apia Sydney International and couldn’t cross the
third stage of the Australian Open; falling to one of the booming Russian stars, Ekaterina Makarova.
Romanian beauty queen, Sorana Cirstea, ended her title dreams in the PTT Pattaya Open where she started as the top seed. She entered the third set and lasted four games against the Romanian before pulling out of the contest due
to an injury. First round withdrawal from the Qatar Ladies Open further swallowed her points.
The main problem with the Russian former world number two was that she started playing professional tennis without recovering completely from the injuries. She only lasted a couple of rounds and then pulled out of the contest that
only worsened her condition of the injury. Sometimes players need to take wise decisions and stay out of professional tennis so that they give ample time to their injuries and fatigue to recover.
Her misery continued in India Wells as well where she gifted a walkover to the Czech competitor, Klara Zakopalova, in the second round. She was ousted the Spanish wildcard entrant, Garbine Muguruza Blanco, in the first round of
the Sony Ericsson Open at Miami.
With such a dismal start, no one can expect to stay amongst the Top-10 players. She revived something in the Family Circle Cup by reaching the quarter-final stage of the tournament but the first round exit at the Mutua Madrid
Open washed away the recovery process.
She was absent from Rome because of an injury. If she had done that before she would have been perfectly fine for the upcoming Grand Slam tournament, the Roland Garros French Open.
