Vera Zvonareva dumps Akgul Amanmuradova in the second round – Pattaya Open 2012
Top seed Russian, Vera Zvonareva, crushed the Uzbek tennis ace, Akgul Amanmuradova, in the second round of the PTT Pattaya Open on Wednesday. The Russian tennis ace took little time to march ahead into the next round; ousting
her opponent in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.
The Uzbek participant was lucky in the first round with her win as well. Her counterpart, Laura Robson, was suffering from a chronic wrist injury and couldn’t perform up to the mark. Robson retired during the first set play
and gifted the second round berth to the Uzbek. She was facing tough time on tennis courts, losing most of her encounters in the recent past and it was always very difficult for her to pull up an upset against the top seed contestant of the tournament.
Zvonareva was also hunting victory for a long time, as she was going through dismal period of her career in singles category; losing six of her last ten encounters. This win will definitely help the world number eight to
revive some form and put an end to her poor run of play. She started the match with a successful serve game and continued to impress everyone with her stunning cross-court and down the line winners.
She broke serve in the fourth game of the set and doubled her lead. She was on top of her game performing excellently especially during her serve games. Both players traded breakpoints in the seventh and eighth game of the
set leaving Zvonareva to serve for the set triumph. She successfully held on to bag the opening set.
Second set was not much different from the first as the Russian broke early in the third game to exert pressure and take the lead. With a trade of two breakpoints between both players, by the end of the second set, Zvonareva
dumped her opponent to book a berth in the third round of the contest.
She will get face-to-face with the seventh seed Romanian beauty queen, Sorana Cirstea, in the quarter-final stage of the contest. It is going to be an enthralling battle between the two tennis divas later this week.
