Vera Zvonareva hammers Kim Clijsters to qualify for the semi-finals in Doha
The Russian tennis sensation Vera Zvonareva has successfully qualified for the final four stage by beating, former world number one tennis star from Belgium, Kim Clijsters in the ongoing (Women’s Tennis Association) Championships
tennis tournament, which is being held in Doha, Qatar.
The twenty-six years old is enjoying the best time of her career, as she has outclassed all her ace rivals in the white group matches of the tournament. Moreover, she is the only player who has qualified for the last four
stages unbeaten. The Russian stole the show by 6-4 and 7-5.
The current world number two Zvonareva suffered a strong challenge by her Belgian rival, but in the end it was her day and she settled the brawl in a victorious manner. Despite of losing the game from Vera, Clijsters has
also qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament as she has won the other two round-robin matches of the white group. Clijsters will now face the Australian tennis sensation Samantha Stosur in her upcoming match, whereas the current world number two Vera
Zvonareva will see the twenty years old current world number one Caroline Wozniacki in the semi-finals of the event.
The next match against Wozniacki is not going to be an easy battle for Vera as Wozniacki has recently usurped the world number one tag from the American ace Serena Williams and she is performing remarkably these days.
When Zvonareva was asked about her plans for the next match against Wozniacki, the twenty-six years old told that she is aware of the fact that Wozniacki is currently at the peak of her career and she is definitely not going
to be an easy challenge for her. She added that the Dane is an awesome player and being the number one is vital proof of her talent and dedication.
While talking about her performance in the tournament, Zvonareva said that so far, she is very happy with the way she has performed, but a tougher challenge is still ahead. She said that she is aware of the positive points
of her game and if she plays with her full strength, she can beat any player in the world.
When Clijsters was asked about the fact, she expressed her views in a very relaxed manner and told that the stress of the match against Azarenka was a bit too much for her and she was not able to give her full in the match
against Zvonareva.
Kim added that she is now going to get her energy back by taking some rest and will definitely try to recover well in the tournament. She further added that she would now try her level best to regain her lost energy as she
has a free day ahead.
In other matches of the tournament, the thirty years old and current world number six Italian tennis ace Francesca Schiavone saw off her Russian rival Elena Dementieva in a maroon group round-robin match by 6-4 and 6-2 whereas
Victoria Azarenka thrashed Jelena Jankovic in a two-setter battle by 6-4 and 6-1.
The semi-finals of the event are going to be much exciting and thrilling as the world number two will attack the world number one and Clijsters will try to smash her Australian rival after regaining her strength.
