Vera Zvonareva runs the show against Nigina Abduraimova in the 1stround – Baku Cup 2011
The second day of the Baku Cup 2011 saw the continuation of the 1st round matches between players. Meeting for the first time it was world no. 3 (Vera Zvonareva) against the world no. 484 (Nigina Abduraimova) at the
Baku Tennis Academy on acrylic rukort hard courts, both the players had crossed swords in a stimulating one hour, 32 minutes and 40 seconds. The world no. 3 took the cake 6-1, 7-5.
Winning the toss, the Russian (Vera) opened the score board with great agility and style; she struck only one double toss and had smashed zero aces but at the same time won a hundred percent of her first serve points along with
an equally exceptional return game , she also managed to win three of  the six break point chances. Her defence was cogent and well established; standing firm on her ground she struck only one double fault and won the set in a jiffy. On the contrary her opponent
was not only nervous but it seemed as if she was dominated and subdued as she was not able to win a single point on her opponent's first serve. Therefore she was no competition for her competitor and had almost half as many points in her total set as her opponents.
After the first set of the match the score board read 1-0; there was still some hope left for the 17-year-old Nigina to make a comeback. This time it was Nigina who opened the set with wobbling hands she struck two double faults
both hit the net and although for a split second she lost her control and gave three break points to her opponents advantage and won only two out of the total four. This time she played much better with a remarkable improvement in her game she actually had
three percent more wins in her first serve but due to her in consistency in her return game (even though it showed a remarkable improvement  than the first set) she (Nigina) lost the match.  The Russian was like the Great Wall of China standing her ground
and bouncing everything that came her way. Vera won the second set with ten percent more total set points.
Over all, Vera dominated both the sets and won the match and both her sets with a 2-0 lead. The Russian will now be facing   the Slovak Kristina Kucova.
