Verbal Dyslexia??

When i am having a conversation with someone or reading out aloud in class, i sometimes mix up the words order or the letters in the words. This results in mispronouncing words and saying phrases that make no sense.

I can't spell very well either.

The strange thing is that i can write well, i just can't spell or read aloud...

  1. This sounds to be like an Expressive Language Disorder. It iwll cause problems similar to what you are having. Here are some of the symptoms:

    # Frequently having trouble finding the right word

    # Using the wrong words in sentences or confusing meaning in sentences

    # Making grammatical mistakes and using poor sentence structure

    # Relying on short, simple sentence construction

    # Relying on stock standard phrases and limited content in speech

    # Inability to ‘come to the point’ or talking in circles

    # Problems with retelling a story or relaying information

    # Inability to start or hold a conversation

    # Misnaming items - this is called dysnomia

The spelling problems you are having can be very related to an expressive language disorder. It can also be a result of deficits in short term memory. You need to be able to hold a word in memory long enough to get it down on paper.

My suggestion is that if this is really bothering you, you may want to get process and language testing. There are a multitude of issues that can make up a disorder of the type you are having.

That being said, there isn't a lot that can be done to improve these conditions from a neurological sense after you are grown. However, with testing will come some recommendations for how to help you adapt to the issue so that it isn't so bohtersome.

Try reading up on Language disorder and learning disabilities on the 'Net. It could be quite revealing!
