Verbatim external drive 500mb prevents bootup

Question

I have had problems with the computer since I bought a new verbatim external drive.this morning, I could not get past the bios screen.I disconnected everything including the network, plugging them all back in one at a time and restarting after each one.turns out that the verbatim is preventing the boot. any suggestions
