Verdura Golf & Spa Resort will host the Sicilian Open this year
The exciting venue of the Verdura Golf & Spa Resort, Sicily in Italy, will be hosting the Sicilian Open, a European Tour event, for the first time.
The Sicilian Open is a new tournament that started in 2011. Last year it was played at the Donnafugata Golf Resort & Spa and was won by Raphaël Jacquelin of France in an amazing manner.
Jacquelin, a 37-year-old professional, scored 12-under par and 272 strokes in total and defeated the English Anthony Wall with a one-stroke lead. The total prize fund was €1,000,000, out of which he earned €166,660.
After the successful debut year, now the venue has been changed to the Verdura Golf & Spa Resort.
This location is far better than the previous one and has enough facilities to thoroughly entertain the players and spectators.
The tournament is scheduled from March 29 to April 01. The field is not yet set, but it was revealed that 143 professionals will play the month ending tournament of the European Tour in March.
All the players will compete for the title and the winner will earn €166,660, along with Ryder Cup points. Meanwhile the earnings will be added to the Race to Dubai list as well.
There are a total of 45 appealing holes at Verdura. Moreover, the two 18-hole golf courses are among the best features of the venue.
Amateurs can also enjoy the game, as there is another 9-hole golf course specially designed for the amateurs.
Kyle Phillips is the respected architect of all three courses at Verdura. He designed the 230 hectares of land facing 1.8 kilo meter of coast in a modern way.
He added many deep bunkers, water hazards, tough greens, appealing olive and orange trees and undulating fairways.
All these features make the four-day Sicilian Open more appealing and one of the best as well.
On the other hand, it is one of the most challenging golf courses in Italy and will be welcoming all the European Tour stars for the first time.
All the players have to be impressive in Italy as the new venue is very difficult and tough as compared to the previous one.
However, the spectators and all the field members will enjoy pleasant temperatures and gentle sea breeze throughout the four-day tournament.
