what causes vericoseveins and how can i help prevent them????

  1. A scientific study some years ago showed that standing still for long periods would tend to cause varicose veins in susceptible people.  If you did not have varicose veins, walking about as part of your job should not give you varicose veins.  However, if you do have the beginnings of varicose veins, either walking about or standing still would tend to make them worse.  Only having a job sitting down would stop them getting worse. A weakness for varicose veins may be inherited from parents who had them.

    Support tights should help.  


  2. spider veins... ever wonder why nurses where stockings?.. prolonged stress on legs cause them, or they are hereditary.. if you think you are stressing your legs than wear stockings more often.. also.. if you are a big fan of crossing your legs (one over the other).. than stop, because that can cause them too, just don;t do it as much!

  3. Varicose veins are more common in women and heredity plays a role.

    1.  Walking-- improves circulation in the legs.

    2.   Weight--if you are overweight, you put more pressure on the legs.

    3.   Standing---you are increasing venous pressure and this weakens the blood vessel walls.

    4.   Shoes---avoid high heels and make sure your shoes fit well

    5.   Hose--- wear compression hose (support hose)

    6.   Posture-- Good posture improves circulation, while crossed legs restrict blood flow to and from the legs.

    7.  Sitting--- If your job requires you to sit all day, try walking around or stretching your legs. Don't sit for long periods.

    8.  Smoking---this helps cause varicose and spider veins

    Long story short, keep the blood circulating to prevent varicose veins.
