Verizon High Speed Internet Question?

This person is suppose to come at the end of the week and "set up" my connection for internet and phone. But today I heard my home phone ringing (the phone they are setting up at the end of the week) I didn't pick it up because I was too far and I'm too lazy. So I decided to turn on the modem/router verizon had sent a week before and Voila! I could connect to the internet and my phone also works. I;m just confused about how this all works when they aren't "setting me up" for another couple days. So is this a bad thing that it works and will I get in trouble with verizon or anything? Thank for any help I get.

When I got my Verizon high speed no one came to set it up.  I got a box in the mail with the dsl stuff.  They just told me when I can get online with it.
