Question:

Verizon door to door scam?

I was approached by a door to door rep claiming to be from verizon. He did have some verizon logo clothes. He said verizon is installing new fios cables for internet and phone. He also said that he will call a number and we will need to verify information with the operator. He needed permission so that the techs can come on our property to install exterior fios boxes. I was immediately suspicious and asked why did we have to call a number that wasnt provided by verizon. I talked to the "operator" but was not convinced. I let him go. He came on sat and verizon was closed so i was not able to call them myself to ask about this.

  1. This sounds like a scam! Smart. I'd tell them to go to h**l. And call verizon right away. I think you'd be seeing commercials and things of that nature on tv for the internet and phone thing. It sounds messed up. They could have robbed you.and you woulda been SCREWED.

  2. Verizon has hired outside contractors to go door to door to sell the services.  If you are not sure of who is at your door, or have a "bad" feeling you did the right thing.  Use this link to see if FIOS is truly available in your area:

The door to door sales people DO NOT set up the tech appoitments, they are set up by a real Verizon employee.  Please be carefull.  If you have this guys name or info, when you do speak to Verizon tell them what happen and they can verify if he was a true door to door contractor.
