Verizon remote won't work

Question

I have a Vizio 42 HD and the cable went bad. It was replaced but now the Verizon remote will not turn the set on and off plus it won't control the volume. I saw the Verizon tech try 3 different remotes but none would work. He said probably when the cable went out it did something to the volume and on/off. They work with the Vizio remote but not the Verizon remote. Verizon says it's not their problem and Vizio says it's not theirs. The set is 3 months old. Any thoughts?
