Vermaelen a shining light for Arsenal

Thomas Vermaelen was an unknown quantity when he arrived on British shores back in June; however, the £11 million paid for the Belgium international has proved a shrewd bit of business by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

The centre-back now has six league goals to his name after scoring an acrobatic goal against Manchester United on Sunday – putting him level with the likes of Clint Dempsey, Bobby Zamora and Craig Bellamy. Arsenal may have their weaknesses at the back but the blame can’t be pinned on the 24-year-old.
