http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thomas-Vermaelen-c35002 has admitted that he is more than happy to be the club’s vice captain and is rather happy with the way his career has progressed at the club.
The Belgian international was brought to the Emirates in 2009 and he was named the vice captain of the team last summer. AS a result, he is now going to take charge of the team, should http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380 leave the club or be forced to sit out due to an injury.
Vermaelen has gone on to reveal that he is having the time of his life at Arsenal and despite his constant injuries, he is keen to improve in the future and give his all for the team.
When talking about how being the vice captain of the team affected him, the defender is reported to have said: "When the boss made me vice-captain it made me proud, I am really happy to be vice-captain of such a big club like Arsenal.”
"I feel the responsibility to help the captain in his role as well, and of course that means the club and the boss give you a lot of confidence."
Vermaelen feels that one of the reasons for him to fit right into the team and have no problems at being vice captain is because he knows just how Van Persie works and thinks.
He went on to add: "I know the Dutch like to be straight with each other and tell people what they think and that is important.”

"If you can tell your team-mate what is going wrong and they accept it, that means something is going well in the team. If he can't accept it then that is not good. To say what you think to other players is really important.”
This season, Vermaelen spent far too much time on the sidelines and this left the team a little venerable at the back. However, should he manage to stay fit for the coming season and avoid picking up any silly bookings, he could go on and maintain his reputation
to being one of the best defenders in the game.
