Vermaelen suffered another setback, Squillaci out for one month, we will buy a defender - Arsene Wenger
It has been confirmed by Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger that the Gunners will be in the transfer market, searching for a central defender in order to overcome their defensive problems.
Arsenal’s defensive leader, Thomas Vermaelen is out of action since late August. The 25-year-old centre-half suffered Achilles injury on International duty with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850. It was first hoped that it was a minor fracture and Vermaelen would be back in few weeks;
however, the injury prolonged and Arsenal are unable to predict his return anytime soon.
Earlier in this month, it was reported that Thomas Vermaelen has completed Arsenal’s outdoor training and is likely to be back in action by the end of January.
Last night in an interview with media, Arsene Wenger confirmed that Vermaelen suffered a major setback during a training session on Saturday.
The Frenchman said, "We are consulting top specialists around the world. He has another check today, and we will know more on Wednesday. Unfortunately I can't give you any precise date, but I concede that, with this little setback from Thomas, we are in
a situation where we will have to look around."
The latest injury to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thomas-Vermaelen-c35002 means that the Belgian centre-half is likely to miss rest of the season.
Moreover, Arsene Wenger’s summers signing, Sebastien Squillaci was injured in Arsenal’s latest FA Cup third round 1-1 draw against Leeds United. The experienced French defender suffered a hamstring strain and is ruled out for the rest of the month, where
Arsenal is scheduled to play 11 matches.
Wenger continued, "Squillaci will be out for a maximum of three weeks, minimum two. It is a hamstring injury but it is not too bad - a grade one. He will be back in two weeks if all goes well."
Now, Arsene Wenger is left with only two central defenders, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bacary-Sagna-c7148 can play in the heart of the defence but still Gunners need a veteran central defender.
Arsenal’s reserve team captain, 18-year-old defender, Ignasi Miquel was part of Arsenal’s squad against Leeds United but he remained on the bench.
Moreover, Ignasi Miquel is expected to be part of Arsenal team in tonight’s Carling Cup semi-final against Ipswich Town.
Arsenal are the only team playing in four competitions at a time, Barclays Premier League, UEFA Champions League, Carling Cup and FA Cup, which means the Gunners will have to play more matches than any other team. Arsenal are really short of central defenders
and it has been reported that the Gunners are linked with Werder Bremen central defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emir-Spahic-c12523.
