I know you are allowed to put tea bags into your compost, but what about the string that is attached to the tea bag. Is this ok?

  1. I rip off the string, little paper and staple. My parents compost coffee filters and they seem to disappear.

  2. You can...the worms wont eat it and it takes a really really long time to break down, so you are more than likely going to have strings throughout your compost. Depends on how "clean" you want to keep your compost to be.

  3. Assuming that the string is not nylon or some other synthetic fiber it should be okay.  For the most part, you can vermicompost entire teabags (tag, string, and bag) with the exception of the staple.  I will say that Twinnings is a good choice, as they refrain from using staples in their teabags; or I guess you can opt for a tagless teabag.
