How does the Vermox tablet (for pinworms) work?? How long will this medication be effective once taken? They instruct to take a second dose two weeks later to kill the worms that have hatched from the eggs left behind. Does this mean when the tablet is taken, every worm will die from that point on. And the second dose is going to kill those worms that have hatched from eggs? Can someone explain please?

  1. Vermox interferes with the functioning of cells in the pinworms causing them to starve and/or self destruct due to these malfunctioning cells. This can only happen with live/active pinworms- so would have little effect on unhatched pinworms. Typically with pinworms a single dose is enough to kill the vast majority of pinworms that are present in the time the medication is in your system.
