Vernon-Verona-Sherrill sweeps Living Word Academy – Volleyball news
Vernon-Verona-Sherrill boys volleyball team had a match with their counter parts from the Living Word Academy recently.
The Academy boys has been having three regular season wins over the VVS but this time around the Red Devils were successful in swinging things in their favour by handing out a defeat to their rivals.
The match between the two sides did not take long to reach its close as the VVS were able to earn a win by making a clean sweep over the Lions of Judah.
The scoreboard showed the following final set scores: 25-23, 25-19 and 25-21.
Bobbie Mumford, who is the setter for the VVS, shared his views in the following manner at the press conference that was held after the closing of the match, “Everyone played their A-game. Me and Alex Rose are the only returners from last year. No one thought
we had a chance after all the seniors we lost. Today everyone stepped up.”
On the other hand, the coach of the VVS squad, Jim Burton, expressed himself in the following manner, “We started off so big ahead and then Living Word almost stole it back from us. That could have totally changed the momentum. If Living Word took that first
game after how it all started, that could have been a tough one to overcome.”
The first set of the match saw the Red Devils take the lead at 7-1. The LWA tried to close in the gap but they could not get too near than 13-7. The VVS boys propelled themselves further and were able to extend the advantage till 17-10. After that point,
it was only a matter of time before the first frame was bagged by the VVS at 25-23.
The second set of the game was more competitive than the previous one as it saw a total of five ties along with three lead changes. Despite the impressive effort put in by LWA, it was the Red Devils that got hold of the second frame at 25-19.
The third set of the match saw the LWA put in a half hearted effort that made it easier for the VVS to earn a win at 25-21.
