Vernon Wells settles into the left-field position with the Los Angeles Angels
When it comes to change, Vernon Wells is not acquainted with the idea. The outfielder who spent most of his time with the Toronto Blue Jays, recently made his way to the Los Angeles Angels. Being part of the American League East region for most of your career
can be an uncanny reality, but in today’s world, moving around regions and clubs is something that most stars get familiar with. The veteran was involved in a recent game in Tempe, Arizona, against the division rivals, Oakland Athletics, as the Cactus League
kicked off its new series of games.
Wells played in left-field this time around and it was a position that was assigned to him when he was brought over to the club. With Torii Hunter on the right-field and Peter Bourjos in the centre, the Angels put up the West’s best out-field players on
the cards. However that was not Wells’ concern, as the change in the ambiance does not alter the goals.
"It's the same thing," Wells said. "The ball goes in the air, you catch it."
During his time on the plate, Wells gained three outings. Results of his effort led him to getting out twice and running a single, once. His only complaint with the change was related to the sun.
"The sun was bad," Wells said. "I almost panicked, but I didn't."
As for the out-field drama, Wells’ did not attract attention as he did not make an error. The former Gold Glove winner with the Blue Jays is an all time leader in fielding percentage for the American League, with .993. The maestro has over a 1000 games of
experience, so his transition will not be noticeable.
"For us as a group, our job is to make our pitchers happy," Wells said. "It's a matter of cutting balls off as much as we can and keeping guys from taking extra bases. If we do that, we can take the pressure off our pitching staff."
The Angels managed to win the bout against the Athletics as they closely clinched an 8-7 tally to steer the game in their favour.
