Veronica Balsano earns Women’s 400m freestyle gold: Day seven – FINA World Masters Championships
Veronica Andrade Balsano of Brazil earned gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle in the age category of 25-29 on last day of the 14th Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur (FINA) World Masters Championships 2012 in Riccione, Italy on Saturday, June 16.
The Brazilian swimmer faced no difficulty in overpowering her challengers and occupied gold medal of the event in a very comfortable manner.
With her impeccable pace, Balsano kept her competitors at a considerable bay and hit the finishing end with the timing of 4 minutes and 31.24 seconds.
The gold medallist remained 7.31 seconds faster from Samantha Gunther of South Africa, who secured silver medal of the discipline by producing a time of 4 minutes and 38.55 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Marion Blanchard of France, who stayed 1.10 seconds behind and hit the finishing wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 39.65 seconds.
The bronze medallist was trailed by Claudia Stich of Germany, who stayed 2.20 seconds apart and settled on the finishing blockade as fourth best finisher with the timing of 4 minutes and 41.85 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was secured by Louise Dee Viktor Delani of Denmark, who made her way to the finishing end with the timing of 4 minutes and 42.06 seconds.
Subsequently Delani enjoyed an advantage of 6.50 seconds over Catherine Garner of France, who sprinted her way towards the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 48.56 seconds for sixth position.
Garner remained 0.33 seconds ahead of Martina Benetton of Italy, secured seventh position of the event by posting a time of 4 minutes and 48.89 seconds for seventh position.
Benetton was followed by Suzani Paz of Brazil, who earned eighth position of the 400m discipline by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 49.50 seconds.
Ninth position of the event was secured by Tarryn Stanford of South Africa, who stayed 0.27 seconds apart and posted a time of 4 minutes and 49.77 seconds.
In addition, the position holders received medals and accolades for their tremendous performances at the prize ceremony after the session.
