I would like to visit the palace and it's near Paris. Do you have any hotel ideas or travelling ideas that might help me.

  1. I think going to Versailles for a weekend would be ideal.  I have been there and the palace can take an entire day to fully appreciate and explore and there are other things nearby that you can do with the other time you are there - or you can always take the train into Paris either in the evenings for a night on the town, a wonderful dinner, or perhaps a show.

Here is my absolute recommendation for a hotel in Versailles and it is right across the street from the palace:  The Trianon Palace (a Starwood hotel).  Here is the link to their Web site - check it out and they also have suggestions of what to do in the local area.  This hotel also has a spa, which you can enjoy while you're there!

  2. I suggest that a day trip to Versailles from Paris is probably all that is needed. An overnight stay would be a bit much although I do not agree with the previous answerer who thought Versailles was boring.

There are actually three palaces. In addition to the main Chateau there are the Grand and Petit Trianons. There are also a variety of other buildings, a small working farm, fountains, and the infamous Hamlet of Marie Antoinette.

You can get there on public transport either by taking:

    1) The RER C line to the Versailles-Rive Gauche station from which it is a ten minute walk to the Chateau

    2) The metro to Pont de Sevres and then taking the 161 bus which will drop you off right in front  of the Chateau.

  3. I suggest you do a one-day-trip, you can take the subway/train (paying the rate for zone 5), you will reach Versailles in 30-40 minutes. There, you can buy tickets for the touristic trains that shows the gardens of the Palace.

I don't really consider it a place for much sightseeing and most of my friends also found it boring (I did not, but I regret not seeing it further), though the palace is certaing magnificent.

If you will be using the Museum Pass, beware of the special entrance, otherwise you will have to take the long waiting line.

It's a half day visit at the Palace, so you will also have few hours to visit the city, if you wish.
