Versailles palace?

What is the closest station to Versailles Palace and what is the best way to get there from Paris? Is there a specific station that the train leaves from or is a coach cheaper?

Here you can find half day or full day tours to Versailles including the tickets, guides and transportation with air-con minivan. Some can pick you up at your hotel.

To actually answer your question, the nearest station is VERSAILLES RIVE GAUCHE. It is the terminus of the "RER C" regional train NOT the metro. Some stations you could board the train from include the centrally-placed "St Michel", "Musee d'Orsay", "Invalides" and "Champ de Mars/Tour Eiffel". It is easily the best way to get to Versailles from central Paris. You would end up paying more if you took the metro to the nearest station (Pont de Sevres) and then the bus (No171) to the Palace, as well as taking a lot more time. It is worth the look, especially when you consider what it cost France, specifically, and Europe in general.  The budget-busting associated with the palace brought on the French Revolution, and began a long period of political upheaval.  

See what Louis XIV treated himself and his favorites to while the peasants and middleclassstarved and paid heavier and heavier taxes.  The Hall of Mirrors alone will take your breath away.  

You can get there from anywhere around Paris by local train from the Metro.  You will pass through lovely pasturelands and small communities.  

Go early in the day and wear good walking shoes.  You will walk at least a couple of miles, maybe more, depending upon how much you want to see. Take along an umbrella in case it rains, or conversely, if the sun is sweltering.   Drink lots of water.

It is closed on Monday, like most European venues, so plan accordingly.  You can buy a guide book and several other excellent books in many languages at the bookstore on-site.  I would buy the book first, and then decide which places I want to spend my time viewing.  You can also get personal electronic guides or go on an escorted tour.

There are tickets of several kinds, but you must take the basic one first.

forget it, i was very very disappointed if you want to look a the outside its a beautiful building , but the inside is boring very little furniture , just lots of empty rooms

It's a great place. I got thrown out of it, I was in a gallery of paintings of his battle victories and asked the curator where was the one of the Battle of Waterloo. I hit the road in 2 seconds flat. There is a Metro line that takes you straight there.
