Versatile squad warms-up to give their best shot at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2013 – Tennis News
Doha will feature the Spanish comeback hero, Rafael Nadal, as the top seed player in the event.
However, the field is emphatically diverse with strong players committing to play in the Qatar ExxonMobil Open to warm-up for the hectic season ahead.
Former world number one, Nadal, is out of action ever since his second round exit at the Wimbledon Championships due to a sore knee. The Spaniard’s comeback will definitely enhance the viewership of the event all across the globe.
The 32-players draw will also feature the likes of the fifth ranked David Ferrer who won seven titles in 2012; making him the highest trophy winner of the season. He also grabbed his maiden Master Tour title at Paris. The 30-year-old is probably amongst
the veterans in the field but the biggest threat as well.
Gael Monfils who stayed out of action for a considerable period of time due to an injury will mark his sixth appearance in the 21st edition of the tournament, commencing from the Next Year eve. He will be accompanied by the 10th ranked Richard Gasquet. Both
Frenchman are equally capable of registering upsets against the top seeds.
Tournament Director, Karim Alami, was content over the group of players registered for the event. He proclaimed, “We are incredibly honoured to have another year with players of the highest calibre coming to the Qatar ExxonMobil Open. The week in Doha kicks-off
the ATP World Tour season and these players are looking to hit the courts fresh. Rafael Nadal is returning to competitive tennis since his knee injury at Wimbledon so everyone is looking forward to seeing what he brings. David Ferrer has had an amazing year
with the number of titles he has had and winning his first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 in Paris. Gael Monfils is always a fan favourite and Richard Gasquet returns to the event after a long absence.”
Other players who will look to improve their result at Doha will include the fan favourite Feliciano Lopez; accompanied Nikolay Davydenko, Philipp Kohlschreiber, Mikhail Youzhny, and three underdogs named Jeremy Chardy, Lukas Rosol and Lukas Lacko.
The tournament will start on December 31st and last until the 5th of January. It will be contested at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex. Several facilities have been installed in the arena to make sure that each visitor feels at ease and
enjoys one of the most prestigious tennis events of the season.
