Vertical Lines in the Monitor

The monitor on my Dell Inspiron 9300 has many vertical lines. Lines are multi-colored and are increasing daily. Is the only answer a new monitor? What started out as 1 vertical line on each side of the monitor has grown to about 30 lines in six months.
