Tottenham Hotspur defender and summer signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814 has reflected back upon the 0-4 win over Aston Villa, and insists that the players were always confident of getting a victory and scoring goals in the second half.
The Belgian centre-half revealed he always had faith that Spurs would beat Villa despite not having scored in the first half. The player praised the team’s attacking capabilities and said that he always had faith in the attacking players.
Despite dominating the first half, Tottenham were unable to break the deadlock and saw out a goalless first half. Aston Villa did not exactly look like a team that was fresh from an 8-0 thumping only 4 days ago courtesy of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786.
It all changed in the second half when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brad-Guzan-c7954.
What followed was a riot, in which http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Bale-c14422 took centre-stage. The Welsh star scored his first ever Premier League hat-trick, and scored 3 quick goals to round off the game and the 3 points for manager Andre Villas-Boas.
The player notched his hat-trick and put in a man-of-the-match performance, but was quick to credit his teammates for the victory and his excellent performance.
Jan Vertonghen reverted back to his favoured centre-half position as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/William-Gallas-c36874. The Belgian said that he was confident that Spurs would break the deadlock and come out strong
in the second half.
Speaking to the club’s official website, he said:
“We had an amazing first half and dominated for 45 minutes but unfortunately, no goals. We knew the goals would come. We struggled for five minutes in the second half but after that we played well again. We just needed that first goal.”
“We felt confident. Every player in our team can score and we knew if we continued to play our game, we would get there in the end.”
The Belgian then went on to praise Gareth Bale and added:
“Bale was amazing. His left foot is lethal. There's always an 80% chance he will score when he's through on goal."
