Very Angry Parakeet?

Ok so my parakeet has gone nUTS. So ive had him for about 3-4 months and we were very happy. I take him out of his cage everyday and he just perches on my shoulder while i do things or we play. He was a very sweet bird. He even lets me kiss him!(on his head) . Today however he is being really mean. I just got a new baby guinea pig and i put both of them on the couch for their first meeting. The poor thing was really scared and huddled into the corner of the couch so i picked her up and cuddled her and put her in her cage (this took a while about 5-10 min) but when i got back my parakeet was soooo angry. I Think he is jealous..is he???? Or is something else wrong? i have not changed his environment in any way. and when i walk away he chirps for attention and when i go to him he starts doing his angry screech and tries to bite my fingers. When i put my finger to the side of his cage he ran over all mad and started biting at the bars like crazy. Is there a reason for his rampage?????

  1. i have the exact same problem! except I dont have a g****a pig, I have a dwarf hamster. my parakeet tries to attack it everytime I let out my hamster.  btw, he also got a little cranky. i cant even touch the cage slightly because he'll bite my fingers. he did use to be very nice, and well behaved. so now I keep the cages in differemt rooms, and i spend time with them seprately. he seems to have forgotten all about it now.

  2. I think he is jealous. When I got a new cat and I spent time with him my other cat would get really mad. When you are playing with your guinea pig try to make it "secret". But still give your parakeet as much attention as you always did. Leave your parakeet alone for a few hours until he cools down. Then try to comfort him like you comforted your guinea pig today.

I hope this gets figured out!

  3. I think he is really really jealous. Maybe you should spend more time with him and speak calmly to him. Tell him that you love him no matter what. Maybe that will calm him down

  4. I agree, he's definitely jealous. Your bird shouldn't be trreating you like that and oyu should pout him in his place. If he bites you or gives you that angry screech, then you should ignore him. Try spending some time with the Guinea Pig and Parakeet, but do it at seperate times. You should never hang out with a Guinea Pig and a Parakeet at the same time because they're two seperate species. If you had gotten another Parakeets that a different story.

I have a Sun Conure and whenever he bites me I put him into his cage for five minutes and walk away. Think of your Parakeet as a baby and put him in his cage for time out.

Birds are like three year olds - they have temperments, curious and at times they get jealous.

Also, try awarding your Parakeet when he behaves. Show your bird that if he behaves, he gets a treat.

Try it for a while and see what happens.

  5. I think your right, I think he's jealous. When you spend time with your guinea pig, do it where your parakeet can't see you. I think you should leave him alone for awhile
