Very Basic Driving Question?

I know the answer must be very obvious, but I am new at driving, and I want to know the answer. Say I am driving in the left lane and I hear an emergency vehicle coming up behind me (police, ambulance, firefighting truck, etc.). What do I do? Do I just stay in the left lane, or do I pull over to the right side? I want two answers: For a street with a barrier in the middle and a street without a barrier.

  1. If it is a two-lane road, yes, you are supposed to get over to the right. But...if it is soemthing like a highway, you just get into the right lane, don't stop or you'd probably cause an accident. But yes, you are supposed to get to the right so they can get by quickly.

  2. dont matter about the barrier. you always pull to the right. it's the law.

  3. Driving, like life, is taken as it comes. Obviously, the early answers are from kids like yourself. The first thing is don't panic! Locate where the emergency vehicle is, and then determine what you can do to allow it to pass in the easiest and safest fashion. Simply pulling over to the right might be worse than slowing down and pulling over as close to the barrier, or line never past it!) and letting the emergency vehicle pass.
