Question:

Very Interesting About Off-Shore Drilling And President Decision?

by  |  earlier

In the news article below, it states President George W. lifted a ban on off-shore drilling that has been in effect since 1990 (President Bush Sr.) and today George W. is challenging Congress to lift their decision so that the USA can start off-shore drilling. This means their will be more oil in production, which also means their maybe lower gas rates (if not significantly, any low rate is better then none). Right now, nothing can be done until Congress agrees with what the President is saying...its all up to Congress (for the better of the economy).

I want to see your viewpoints on this topic. How will this effect your lives if Congress can agree with President Bush? Can you agree that if Congress doesn't make any effort, that gas, as well as food, and other resources will keep increasing in price? How has the present-day economy affected you personally?

  1. There never should be a ban on oil drilling anywhere. Like it or not, it is the life blood of the world economy and certainly of the American and UK economies. An increase in supply most certainly means a decrease in cost for the consumer. That's especially true if the oil comes from home rather than some hostile arab country.

  2. I agree that it should be done, the economy will continue to tank if congress doesn't do something soon. The US shouldn't depend so much on foreign oil. A lot of people are saying it will hurt tourism, but who can afford vacations with these high gas prices? My family is pretty much stuck at home because we are saving our gas. No vacation plans anytime soon.

  3. "For years, my administration has been calling on Congress to expand domestic oil production," Bush said. "Unfortunately, Democrats on Capitol Hill have rejected virtually every proposal. And now Americans are paying at the pump."

I think this says it all, unfortunately, our congress (with approval rating of 9%) will shoot it down.  Keep in mind that their largest base consists of environmentalist who have been fighting against this for years.

  4. China is going to start drilling off the coast of Fl. They are absolute pigs with no regard for pollution. [Did you see the green algae they were trying to clean up that overran the sailing Olympics venue which was due to POLLUTION?]Who would  you rather be drilling there? Us or them? If they find oil, then they'll sell it back to us? Crazy.

Additionally, there is already an area approved for drilling in Alaska right next door to AMWR. So, why the heck aren't already doing that? It's already been approved...

  5. We have to do SOMETHING that will make us not so dependent on foreign oil until we come up with an alternative to it.  I think Bush has the right idea.  I also believe they should put out a very large reward for anyone that can come up with a feasible fuel that is inexpensive and  easy to make.

  6. it's been needing to be done for yrs and hopefully it will not take 15 yrs before we see lower prices. We need to be self-sufficient and not rely on other countries for our oil.

  7. I am very happy about this. The democrats will attempt to block it as they continue the quest to destroy America.

Gasoline prices are peanuts compared to the huge increases in electricity the democrats are pushing due to the global warming hoax. Double your electric bill. For nothing.

  8. What is the alternative? Stay the way we are & let foreign countries keep making the noose around our necks tighter? This is something that needed starting immediately after the Arab oil embargo, not almost 40 years & tens of thousands of gas hungry suv's later.

We not only need to do something about loosening the dependency noose, we need to drastically overhaul current aged refineries, and build a lot more refineries.

We are where we are today because of a failure to plan for this future after the embargo. Americans loved their suv's & other gas guzzlers. I guess the party is over.

    TO THOSE ENVIRONMENTALISTS:

How do you environmentalists like paying $4 + at the gas pump, and about $1200 to fill your home heating oil tanks like I do??? Thanks a lot.

  9. it will do absolutely nothing for the average american.  gas prices won't go down...they'll continue to go up.  now, i'm not trying to insult you, but i'm getting really annoyed at people who think that this is at all a move to help the united states in its current position.  we won't see any benefits from this decision.  congress knows this and thats why they won't work with him on it.  then it'll make them look bad and McCain will blame democrats and all the sheep out there will follow.
