Question:

Very Nervous for High School? Help!?

So my Freshman year of high school is starting next week and, geeez, I am so nervous. I am 5' 11", 170lbs, so I really am not the kind that would appear to be afraid of anything at all, let alone school, but I am terrified.

The school I am going to has ~2,300 students in it, so by no means is it a small school both in terms of students and physical size. I am afraid of getting lost, looking like a loser, and getting myself into awkward situations on the first day. Now, I know there are many adults and older teens on here who have obviously gone through their first day of Freshman year, so what advice could you give? What was it like?

Thanks in advance.

  1. Freshman year is always weird haha. getting lost on your first day is obv. embarrassing, but very normal. theres alot of kids that get lost on the first day. its common. chill man, once the first couple weeks go by ur gonna wanna wish you were a sophmore already. your as tall as me, and its always good to be tall ha. good luck dood. have a good one

  2. The first day of high school is great!  Everyone is terrified and overwhelmed so people band together.  You'll meet so many new people, and they will all be just a excited to get to know you as you are to get to know them.

By the end of the first week, you'll realize that high school isn't so different from middle school.  In fact its better, because now you will have clubs, sports, and a more diverse set of classes to get involved with!

I was beyond terrified to start high school so I decided to team up with one of my good friends to walk to school together.  As we walked through the doors to what seemed like a huge building at that time, we were able to support and reassure each other.   If you don't know anyone going to school with you, still don't worry because there will be tons of students who don't know anyone either and you'll find a great group of friends in no time.

As for getting lost, you can go to campus ahead of time, maybe one or two days before and walk the rout to all of your classes.  You probably won't get lost even if you don't do this, but knowing the way ahead of time will help the nerves.  If worst comes to worst and you do get lost, don't worry because tons of people will be right there with you!

Finally, having this game plan will help a lot with being nervous, but if you still are feeling the nerves treat your first day like a sports match.  Listen to good music and pump yourself up.  Focus on all the new opportunities and you won't have any time to focus on what could (but won't) go wrong.

      Good Luck!

  3. My first day of high school was horrible only because i was in a bad mood! Just be very optimistic, ask for help if you need it and if you do embarrass yourself don't worry about it. Everyone does! Believe me, I'm going into grade 11 and i fall up and down stairs all the time, stuff like that. Just shake it off and you'll be alright ! :D

  4. It's not as bad as you think WHATSOEVER. Really, that's pretty much it. You'll find that all of your worrying was for nothing. High school is great, man. It kept on getting better and better. xD
