  1. "squared" is used to refer to a number or a variable multiplied by itself. It is denoted by a 2 written as a superscript on the upper-right side of the base or the number being multiplied.

    4 squared = (4)(4) = 16

"squared" also refers to a unit of area of a plane figure.

If a square has a side of 6cm., what is its area?

area of a square = side squared

                            = (6cm.) (6cm)

                            = (6)(6)(cm.)(cm.)

                            = 36cm. squared

  2. when applying to areas in two dimensions, you would use length X breadth.

    Eg. 4m X 8m

and your answer would be 32 metres square.

  3. square metres.  a measure of area

  4. Squared is a unit for area which describes that the given object is multiplied by itself twice.  For your instance, meters^2 (meters squared), is essentially just meter*meter.  An example would be finding the area of a two-dimensional rectangle.  Given that the length is 10 meters and the width is 5 meters, you would multiply to find the area- 10 meters * 5 meters = 50 meters squared (m^2).  To break it up, 10*5 is 50 and meter*meter is meter squared.  This is how you get the answer of 50 m^2.

Hope this helped jar your memory!!

  5. Squared is when you multiply a number by itself. Usually you can tell if a number is squared when it has a small 2 next to it.

2 metres squared would be 4,

4 metres squared would be 16 etc...

  6. 1 square meter is a unit of area equal to a square with 1 meter sides.

4 square meters would be the area of a square with 2 meter sides.
