Very converse seasons for the two Scott’s – Ramsay and Saltman
For two Scott’s, the season could not have been more contrasting. On one side, there is Richie Ramsay, who has had a wonderful season and will be lining up in Dubai.
On the other hand, there is Lloyd Saltman, who had a terrible finish and will be in Spain next up in order to earn his tour card.
Richie has been in hot form this season. He has doubled his tally for the titles on the European Tour after winning at the Omega European Masters.
Although his recent form is not very promising but Ramsey has been playing some solid golf over the past couple of months and has an outside chance at Jumeirah.
The world number 56 is currently 27th in the Race to Dubai standings. This statistic speaks for itself and emphasizes on the way he has been playing this year.
The credit for Richie’s rise must also go to his coach, Ian Rae. Ian is also the coach of Scottish national team but he has been working with the 29-year-old for quite some time now.
In fact, Ian has been with Ramsey during the time of his amateur career. Ian has been full of praise for Richie and with what he has achieved so far.
"A coach does not make a player, it is the player who does that himself," said Rae. "You only get out of it what you put in. The word Richie uses a lot is 'unacceptable'. If he's on a practice session and he feels it's not good enough he will say it is unacceptable".
"I would not dare say to him, 'oh, that's okay Richie'. I would say 'you are absolutely right, it is unacceptable and it has to be better' and he will go, 'you're absolutely right there. You do not want to accept mediocrity".
Meanwhile fellow Scott, Lloyd Saltman has had a terrible season on the European and the Challenger Tour. He has been extremely inconsistent with his performances over the last one year.
Currently at the world number 532 spot, Saltman needed to win at the South African Open to have any hopes of retaining the tour card for the next season.
However, all he could manage was a T13 finish at the Serengeti Golf Club. Lloyd is still young and has many seasons ahead of him. He is talented and skillful but he needs to take his time on the golf course.
Even Ian Rae believes that Saltman can do well in the future but what is important is that he must learn from his mistakes and try to overcome them.
For now the 27-year-old is busy, eyeing his options of earning the tour card for the 2013 European Tour.
