Very large belly for size (PCOS) (especially postpartum)...clothing advice?

I have PCOS which has resulted in my carrying most of my weight in my belly. My whole life I have had this problem. I have always been a size 8, but the waist is usually very tight. HOWEVER, I am 12 weeks postpartum and still in maternity pants. I am ONLY 6 POUNDS heavier than my prepregnancy weight, but nothing fits because in order to fit my waist I'd have to go up to a size 12, and then I am swimming in them everywhere else, even 12P. Does anyone have any advice??

  1. try empire-style tops that are more fitted in the chest and looser around the belly (if you know somebody who can sew, just have your maternity tops taken in). As far as pants go, if you don't want to buy mom jeans with elastic waist (please don't buy them), just have some of your old maternity pants taken it.

If you don't know a seamstress, see if there's a fashion college around or a university with a program in textiles/fashion design/costume design. The students are trained to alter clothes, and they will usually do the alterations for couple bucks since they get an opportunity to practice.

If you like dresses, wrap dresses and shirt dresses that are more fitted on top and around the rib cage and flare out on the bottom and around the belly are very in now, and you can get them very cheap.

  2. become friends with a tailor they should be able to give you advice and alter your clothes to make them fit right. my son is 4 months now and i still don't fit into any of my old colthes and sometimes still wear maternity clothes it takes awhile to get back to normal
