Question:

Very old 1 gallon coke bottle?

My sister has a coke bottle known for sure to be at least 65 years old, and it's a bit strange. It is shaped like a traditional glass coke bottle and has the Coke logo in raised letters on the side. It has a patent date of December 25, 1923. The strange part is that under the Coke logo it says 6 fluid ounces, but it has to be at least a gallon. Any information on its history or estimate of it's value would be appreciated.

  1. With the Dec. 25, 1923 date, the bottle could be from two time periods- either from the years 1924-1938 or a reproduction from the late 80's. Since you know its over 65 years old, it would be from the 20s/30s :) That is the 2nd set of bottles that were made in the 'classic' coke bottle shape, the first series/patent was from about 1915-1923.

My guess is that its some kind of oversized advertising item, like to put in a store display or shop window. That would explain the discrepancy in the oz. listed on the bottle.

I don't have any idea of the value though, sorry. I'm sure there are a lot of coke collector sites online that would be able to give you more info. Hope that helps a little.
