Very painful heart burn?

I am currently 29 weeks pregnant. Recently I have been getting really painful heart burn. Its so bad today that I keep burping up acid ( sorry tmi) I was told by my DR that I could take Tums and Zantac ( no more then 150 a day ) but none of these seem to be working. Would it hurt to make more then one pill just for today? I would my DR office but they are closed since its a Holiday. My next DR appointment is Thursday. Or does anyone else have any suggestions that might help?

  1. i had the same problem when i was pregnant. i found that drinking whole milk really helped me because it coats your lining and eases the pain. but dont drink tooo much of it because it is really fattening!

  2. join the club. I'm 24 weeks and have had it for 3 weeks now. (i had it badly with babies 2 and 3 as well) I stick with Rennie and drink lots of milk. Try sleeping a little bit propped up so the acid reflux cant come back up so much. not much works but any relief is some relief

  3. with my first i was dosed up with gaviscon and really suffered from heartburn, try drinking milk and avoid certain foods.

  4. oh my gosh..I had the most painful heartburn ever, it was so bad that I swore I must have burnt holes in my throat and stomach! Yes, its safe to take the recommended dosage on the package. I know Tums says 2-4 at a time a couple times a day. My doctor said its perfectly safe and you can take the kind with added calcium as well. Its tough but it will be worth it in the end! congrats

  5. I had very bad heart burn with my son, milk sometimes helped, and yoghurts, as it neutrilises the acid. Dont take more than the packet/doctor says, it might harm the baby, warm boiled water helped me too, just lots of little sips (i know it sounds disgusting but my mum-in-law told me and it works!)

Not much longer, its seems to drag, but it soon goes, trust me! best of luck

  6. I would not exceed the recommended dose, you just never know.  Avoid acidy foods like tomatoes, oranges and such, they will make it that much worse.  Keep taking them Tums and remember to eat small portions instead of large meals! Good luck hun, I feel your pain.

  7. I had heartburn before I got pregnant and the prescription I took is not good during pregnancy. I am now 35 weeks and my heartburn is controlled but not completely gone.  I take 2 Zantac 3 times a day. It doesn't matter if I am hurting at the time or not. I also take Tums in between if I feel like my heartburn is getting worse. If I miss taking a dose it is horrible. Also I eat small meals and more often.  Seems if I have an empty stomach it hurts worse. I eat 6 times a day. Maybe a sandwich split between 3 meals or something like that. I avoid carbonated or caffeinated drinks (coke, tea).  Both of these cause my heartburn to be worse.

    Congrats and Good Luck!

  8. I also had terrible heartburn...way-back-when.  I thought I was going to die.  Well, maybe not that extreme, but it wasn't pleasant.  I took the recommended dosage and it didn't help.  About the only thing that helps is time.  If you can stick with it for a while, it will pass, as will all symptoms of pregnancy sooner or later.  But, as soon as the heartburn subsides, probably something else will pop up.  Such are the joys of pregnancy.  Can I give you the old clique....It's all worth it in the end.
