Hi, well I live with my single mother (dad wont pay child support). We are very poor right now my mom just got fired from her job as a waitress at I-hop. We can't afford to pay rent and it's already due. My mom is looking for a job but is having a hard time. Sometimes I skip dinner and can't take a shower because of the bills. I am lucky to have running water and electricty. My clothes smell and I have been wearing the same outfits since 6th grade (in 8th grade now) my backpack is old I got it in 4th grade. It's Spongebob and a 8th grader with a Spongebob backpack is just not right. It has holes in it like my clothes. My stomach growls in class and the teachers stare at me and ask me if I would like a snack from their lunchbox other kids hear this and they laugh. Tommorow I probably wont be eating anything. I'm in the library so that's how I have internet access. I'm too young to have a job what shall I do? Thank You and please pray for me.

  1. If this is not true I think you are very mean to lampoon people who actually live this way. If your mom honestly does not earn much money (and it is tough in this economy because many open positions are in the service industry like waitressing at IHOP and that is no way to make any good tips) then she should fill out paperwork to qualify for food stamps so you have enough to eat in the month and she can get assistance for utilities and rental assistance too.

Even shopping at Goodwill you should be able to do better than smelly clothes from 6th grade. You would be surprised at the decent clothes they sometimes have there and at least they would fit. You should find out if your middle school does a clothing exchange. If you are not the biggest boy at school you might get some good quality clothes that some big pig outgrew that now fit you. Your school counselor can help with all of this.

If you can get there often enough you would surely find a decent backpack etc. or while you are still in middle school you might be able to get a backpack filled with supplies from a donation drive. They have them sometimes at Wal Mart or the Supermarket.

At 14 you could earn some money too --- at least to buy some extra groceries so you can pack a lunch for school or you should qualify for  the free breakfast and lunch program at school which would save your mom money feeding you.

You could try getting a paper route or putting up a flyer in the library or somewhere else to do odd tasks like mowing lawns or walking dogs or something. If your mom writes a letter you could work a few hours a week as a busboy at a restaurant. If there is a little mom and pop restaurant or store in your neighborhood you could maybe sweep floors or wash dishes there a few hours a week -- if only so you can get some new pants and sneakers and have some food around the house.

I personally am not sure why even I-Hop if she worked full time would not have supported a mom and a kid a little better than what you are describing unless there are medical bills or other things she spends money on before paying the bills and buying groceries.

  2. you need to pray for your self god will respect and respond better when you call on him for your own needs.and if this is not real you better watch out be cause you are asking for what you are saying.when you ask for prayer over something such as this.

  3. Talk to your school counselor about getting on the low-cost or free lunch program because your family is poor, that will get you at least 1 meal a day. You can also volunteer at a local goodwill and they will allow you to get some clothes there.

  4. You are obviously a very intelligent young man.  Ask your neighbors if there is anything you can do for them to earn some money.  Maybe mow a yard or help someone clean their house.  Go on www.craigslist.net and put an add on there to do odd jobs.  Go to your local church and see if they need any jobs done.

  5. Youre at the library at 2 in the morning? If this is true im very sad for you and i will pray for you.

edit, duh i know theres a time difference, but if ur mom works at ihop i can only assume your in the states, and no matter what time zone youre in its still rediculously late for a 13 yr old to be at a library.

  6. You poor kid, this is heartbreaking. Try to go to a school counselor, and explain your situation. You are way too young to have to worry about these things. The school should be able to help you, I know our school has a clothing donation program. Maybe your mom could apply for foodstamps, and get help, honey, I have a 14 year old son, and this breaks my heart, your mom needs to apply for some type of state aid, until she can get another job. Also, tell her to hunt down your dad and force him to pay, it's his responsibility , too.

  7. Look up agencies that will provide Financial Assistance in your city, state. There are programs out there that will help. Try local churches-they donate things and help all the time. Wow, I used to work at I-HOP as a manager- p.s depending on what she was fired for, she may be able to get her job back!!!! We rehired old waitresses all the time, or hired waitresses that discontinued working at another. So she may want to talk to someone at a different IHOP and see.

  8. You and your mama arent that poor b/c you can afford the internet , why dont you cancel that and then we will all cry a river for you both.

  9. Ya, sure I'll pray for you. I'll pray that this never happens to you, or your future children. This is very serious and not exactly something you want to joke about!!! There really are families and children out there like this!! This is a extremely horrible joke. You ought to be ashamed of yourself!!!

You're probably sitting in your comfy house in the A/C playing your xbox or whatever game counsel you have. Drinking sodas and eating expensive food. While children like this look forward to actually going to school to get the free breakfast and free lunches! Somebody needs to teach you some respect! This is very disgraceful!!

  10. I wish i could help you so much!! i'm poor too, and can barely take care of myself.

has your mom tried to get welfare? and why doesn't your dad paid child support? this just isn't right, no child should go hungry. Talk to your mom about this, and she should want to do what is best for you... tell her there are options for families who don't have enough money, there is some type of welfare she should be able to get, esp. since she has a child.

good luck and i am sorry you are hungry. <3

  11. yeah I saw the other answer you deleted....this is a phony

  12. your mum should be elligble to get food from the government and some money. Op shops have great used clothes and backpacks very cheap.
